Timing Belt vs. Timing Chain
Timing belts and timing chains perform a similar basic function, but they are built differently and have different service requirements.
A timing belt is a reinforced belt that usually has a scheduled replacement interval based on mileage, age, or both.
A timing chain is a metal chain that operates inside the engine and may not have the same routine replacement interval. Chains, guides, tensioners, and related components can still wear or develop problems.
Do not assume your vehicle has a belt based only on its age or manufacturer. Pearl City Auto Works can help identify the engine’s timing-system design.
